By the title of this post I am sure you are probably thinking to yourself raw fruits & veggies? Oh hell nah! Or hmmm interesting. People mostly have those 2 reactions when I talk about this regimen. Well I have been challenging myself to a 30 day raw fruit and veggie fast annually for approximately 5 years now.

Hope you had a lovely weekend and Happy New Year’s Day. This past weekend I had a chance to spend some much needed time with a couple of my girls to close out 2017. If you have read some of my previous posts you will know I absolutely love brunch 🙂
Needless to say this outing was for brunch. We decided to dine at La Malinche which is located in downtown Silver Spring. They currently have an unlimited brunch menu special. So we definitely decided to take full advantage.

Honestly speaking the holiday season is a tough time for me. Everyone seems soo excited about this time of year, trying to spread the Christmas cheer. But my life feels like a very important piece of the puzzle is missing. My best friend has been gone for 3 years now and tomorrow is his 76th birthday. So I hop on the Christmas train by over shopping, indulging in holiday treats, keeping myself busy, and trying to be merry while inside I am still hurting from a pain that will not go away.

Isn’t it quite interesting how experiences can shape your life in the future? Although I know we cannot rewind the hands of time, I do wish I knew a few things that I know now, back when I was younger. Especially since in my opinion most Haitian parents, well at least mine were mostly concerned about providing a roof over my head, clothes on my back, and food in my belly. There are very few Haitian parents I’ve met that are concerned with the emotional aspect of their children. Therefore, if I could write to my younger teenaged self, I would tell her this:

Although Thanksgiving just passed, with Christmas just around the corner, there maybe holiday parties galore heading your way. I would say food is one of the main focal points during these two holidays so naturally this is when most people tend to overeat. I can attest to that statement. However, this year I decided to be a little more mindful of my eating and managed not to gain weight from Thanksgiving dinner. I am crossing my fingers that I can do even better during Christmas.
