How to Become a Happier Healthier You

I am always looking for ways to be happy and improve my quality of life. Here is a list of things I am already implementing or currently working on implementing in my life:

Going To Bed Earlier

Studies suggest getting 7-9 hours of sleep every night.  This makes you less tired and cranky.  I aim to get 7.5 hours per night but often only get about 6.  I find that sleeping 9 hours or more makes me even more tired.

Meditating for 5 minutes or more

People often ask me how I am often in such a zen like state.  I definitely attribute this to my meditation practice.  Since I began meditating over 2 years ago I have noticed I am less irritated, I can focus more, and I am more likely think things through before reacting.

In the past I would meditate 10 min per day but my current schedule forced me to reduce my meditation practice to 5 minutes per day.  I find that I still benefit from 5 minutes of meditation but of course the more time you dedicate to this practice the more benefits you will receive.

I meditate first thing in the morning by sitting up in bed with a pillow propped up behind me. I then focus on my breathing, calming my mind, and whatever else I need clarification on.

Reading Inspiration Quotes 

I am obsessed with inspirational quotes, I’m always posting them up searching for them on social media, and sharing them.  I also love posting them up wherever I can in my work space, room, etc.

Positive Affirmations

How can anyone love you if you don’t first love yourself?  I make it a habit to positively affirm myself daily.  Take a look in the mirror. Who are you? Are you smart? Funny? Beautiful? Trustworthy? Do you have a bright future ahead of you?  Are you going after what you want in life? Build yourself up mentally by telling yourself out loud who you are so it becomes intuitive.  That way no one can come and try to tear you down mentally.  It’s okay, you can feel yourself just don’t get too big headed and don’t exaggerate.

Spread Love

We have all heard “it’s nice to be nice.”  Well the truth is it is.  Do something nice for someone. Send someone a nice text message remind them how loved they are.  Being nice is highly contagious, once you do something nice to someone they are more likely to get in the spirit and do something nice for someone else.  Then the cycle continues.

When someone is trying to bring you out of your character take a step back to re-evaluate the situation.  Instead of negatively reacting, sprinkle them with a loving positive response. They will not anticipate that.

Keeping A Gratitude Journal

This one is new for me.  I must admit I like it.  I try to right down how I am feeling and what I am grateful for as a recap to my day.
