Getting Back On Track With My Fitness Goals-Update

A couple weeks ago I wrote a blog post about how I plan to get back on track with my fitness goals.  (If you missed this blog post you can check it out here.) This is very important to me because the holiday season is when I tend to fall all the way off the wagon.  With a plan in place I will be more likely to stay focused and think twice about what I eat.  My goal is to build more discipline by sticking to healthy eating habits.

I just completed my 7 day fruit and vegetable challenge yesterday.  So today I am checking in with an update.

Luckily, on the first day of this challenge my workplace held a potluck salad lunch which was a nice, healthy alternative to the food they normally serve at these gatherings. The variety of toppings made available for building a salad were pretty awesome. Toppings ranged from chopped avocado, roasted brussel sprouts (which I tried for the first time and actually liked them),  to baked sweet potatoes. Talk about being in salad heaven lol 🙂  There was even meat for the meat eaters.

Each day of this challenge, I had either fresh fruit, fresh pressed juice, or a smoothie for breakfast.  Lunch was typically a salad with the juice of half a lime sprinkled on top as a dressing or topped with hummus.  I do not use traditional dressings because they have extra additives and preservatives.  However, if I am up to it, I make my own dressing with olive oil, fresh squeezed lime, sea salt , and natural herb seasonings.  At night I often ate sautéed vegetables in a wrap or in some other dish.  One night I did make a butternut squash soup which was just what I needed to warm me up in this cold weather. 

Honestly,  whenever you are trying to create new healthy habits, it can be challenging.  I was able to stay grain free but one night I did have tortilla chips which are not a part of the plan.  But in my defense they were organic 🙂

Overall I lost 4 lbs (not much I know lol, but I am not trying to lose much weight.) I feel lighter, more energized, and happier.  This week I will continue eating fruit or drinking a smoothie for breakfast with a salad for lunch.  At dinner I will allow myself to eat grains.  Typically I can keep up with this food regimen at least during the weekdays. I may end up incorporating fish into my diet again however, I have not decided yet.

During this last challenge, I posted at least one of my meals on my IG and whatsapp story daily.  My next fruit and veggie challenge will be December 1st through December 7th. Follow me @yesherestherj on IG to join and follow along with me in this journey.
